I just get chuckle when I see non Chinese people get tattoos with Chinese characters etc. Its just the in thing now like girls who get the character "Mei (Pretty)" on themselves.

One day its tribal band the next "Peace", "Honor", "Wisdom" in Chinese Characters etc. I would take the other posters advice, it should be the most reliable tattoo artists and it doesn't have to be done by an authentic Chinese tat artists.

Just get the characters you want and verify it with a few people who are fluent that you trust. .

I heard Doramen tats are in cool now. :D

This isn't a "trend" thing. Like I said, that is only a VERY small peice of the entire design. It is 100% me. I do NOT understand people that can go into a shop, look thru a book or on the wall, and say "I want that one". Whether it's a trendy one or not, that makes no sense to me. I believe a tat should be a one of a kind piece of art that reflects you or some part of you.

ps - Names are even worse!

The only exception i can think of is if you can actually write it yourself, or your family or relatives can. in my eyes, its just like the thread where the guy wanted a samaurai sword. dont rip off other peoples cultures. please just think about that.

First off, I somewhat agree with you. That is why I have done exhaustive research to make sure everything is correct. This is the last piece of a rather extensive project. Since 99% of people with tat's picked them off of the MF wall, I don't feel what I am doing is inappropriate. I understand what EVERYTHING in my Tat will represent, and I mean EVERYTHING. It will be representative of me, designed by me, and will BE me. That is why it is importatnt to me to have it done by a Chinese artist.

I am not going to try and explain to you why in my mind it MUST be a chinese tattoo, but in my case, it is a MUST.

Tell me, how did you decide on yours?

I saw it, i wanted it for a few years, i got it

How about some celtic sigils (runes) of power instead? I'm sure you'll be all the rage (and many date offers) from these lovely lasses not to mention the Buffy crowd.

The actual tattoo will take up most of my back, and the theme of it is BALANCE. (One of my shortcomings)

It will be centered around a large Yin-Yang. Will include two dragons (one white, one black) each will be holding the opposing colored "pearl". One pearl will have the symbol for passion, the other the symbol for wisdom. The pearls will be inside of the Yin-Yang, which itself will be encased in a siver ring. Everything has a meaning - down to how many toes the dragons have......

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH those people got 0wn3d!

hahahhaha LMAO

In the last month, seven people unknowingly received explicit tattoos from the disgruntled artist. Kerri Baker, a Carlow College freshman, paid $50 to have the symbols for ?beautiful goddess? etched above her belly button, but when she went into Szechuan Express Asian Noodle Shop sporting a bare midriff, the giggling employees explained to her that the tattoo really said, ?Insert General Tso?s Chicken Here!?

?I don?t even like General Tso?s!? Baker sobbed. ?I?m a vegetarian!?

for your links:

note: I say usually because sometimes they can mean different things if used in a different context.

1) passion, usually used to mean high level of enthusiam, as in "he was greeted by the crowd with enthusiam"

2) desire, usually in a sexual context, depending on what words preceds it, may also mean "appetite".

3) it linked to same character as 2,

4) passion, usually used referring to emotion, mostly love, has partially connotation of uncontrollable passion.

hope this helps, PM me or email if you want more details.

No, please don't put chinese character tatoos on your body.
Just think about it, would you put "passion" in english on your body?
Think of the many Chinese in Washington State, don't let them laugh at you.

Please tell me you're Chinese but just can't read the language.

If you're white, or anything but Asian I am going to laugh so hard at you....POSER!

It's like Slim Shady getting an African tribal tattoo because it's a "spiritual link."

Give me a break.

Me, for example, I have the Japanese character Ei tattooed on my back. Thing is, I'm half Japanese and that happens to be my MIDDLE NAME.

The PA didn't hurt?

the needle doesnt, but they slide a receiving tube in and that makes you so horribly uncomfortable you dont notice the piercing. it also stretches itself :D mines 4 gauge now, just from putting in new jewelry over time. no pain involved and the gf "approves" :)

NL5, what you are doing seems quit alright to me, it sounds like you're putting a lot of thought into it and it has a lot of meaning. hope everything works out for you.

for others who have chinese characters as a tatoo and doesn't put thought into it like NL5. chinese character tats are played out man!! I get so annoyed when i see people with the chinese character strength on their arm, or, yes, girls having chinese characters tats on their lower back that says "pretty", tats on the lower back is also played out
