If so, what was on it and how was it prepared? I've heard so many different ways to prepare it, I was wondering which is best.

Yes, though I couldn't tell you what is on it.
I always got it at a restaurant, and never made it myself.

Yes. Only way I know is french toast with ham/turkey and cheese. Some people add syrup on top of that too (sounds disgusting, but it's actually pretty good! One of those things you'd have to try to believe.)

it's the house specialty at the Blue Bayou restaurant at Disneyland. I'm eating there next Sunday (early valentine's dinner).

tastes so good... so bad for you.

Yes, a seemingly odd sandwich but pretty good.

I often see it served with cranberry sause.

The only one I've had was from Bennigan's. A bit too greasy for my tastes.

The Monte Cristo
This sandwich is stacked with ham, turkey, and Swiss and American cheeses on wheat bread, then battered and fried ?til golden. Dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by red raspberry preserves for dipping.

I tried a few bites and that's about all I could handle. Reading the description just screams heart attack. And this is coming from a guy who loves bacon, butter, cheese, etc.

I make it myself using all of this but on french toast and not deep fried.
But the Bennigan's sandwich is AWESOME!!!!!! I love it so much.

I've had the McDonalds McGriddle sandwich a few times, I really like it. It's like syrup-dipped bread with bacon/egg/cheese/whatever. I thought it would be gross but it's REALLY good.

the movie is awesome too :D

The last one I had turned me off of them, maybe forever. The bread is usually cripsy or toasted. Inside I believe is some cheese, ham and possibly sourkraut (sp?).

A place called "tomcats" (tomkatz?) near me serves one. It's awesome. It's harm, turkey, swiss cheese on thick, buttered, toast with powdered sugar on top.

That sounds more like a Reuben than a Monte Cristo.

Cheddar's makes a Monte Cristo that I've had a couple of times. I've sworn them off, though - eating one takes days off your lifespan.

Why would that be gross? People have had that combination of food for breakfast for 100's of years :) All McD's did was put it all on one sandwich!
