Anybody else use their cell phone as their only phone?

I am a freshman in college, and since my apartment didn't come with a local phone, I decided that I would just switch my cell phone to a local number, and add more minutes to it. So far it has been pretty much a satisfactory experience, I can't justify spending the $20/month for a stripped line, and Cingular's coverage is pretty good around here. My plan of 700/3000 + 500 mobile to mobile has been enough to last me, although I monitor it online. And of course I have cable internet 🙂 On the other hand, my parents still have old analog cell phones that they never use (yeah I know) - i guess whatever floats your boat 🙂

I thought of it many times, but then I remember that 911 can't tell where you are if it's not from a normal phone line...

so when you fill out various applications and forms, do you put your cell phone as your homephone? Then what if the info gets out to the telemarketers, you would then be answering telemarketing calls on your cell phone.

makes it easier to prank call them 😛

I don't have a landline here, internet is cable, I've got the cell phone, I don't need another phone. I don't get telemarketers either.

dont have a landline...

wth do i need a landline for?

it works fine, no one calls me, i dont call anyone....it works great

If I lived on my own I would have a landline just for DSL and emergencies. Otherwise, I use my cell for all other calls. LD is so much cheaper.

If you call 911 on your cell phone here you get the California Highway Patrol whose dispatching department is extremely understaffed. You could end up on hold for half an hour. No joke.

Unless you have MCI in which you pay 59.99 a month for unlimited local, free nationwide long distance, and all the extras.

Parent's house. Have Verizon for local telco and Sprint for LD (no monthly fees since I have PCS).

yep, just sprint pcs and my cable modem. of course a couple of times i thought about ditching my cable modem and getting dsl when the cable was on the fritz.
