Anybody else tired of those $&#&^@&^ rebates??

While looking through the BF deals it seems that the majority of the big ticket items had AR next to them especially the usual suspects of CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Max and Office Depot. Why in hell can't they actually have anything cheap without making you go through the hassle of sending that sh!t in? I know they bank on most people not filling them and that in and of itself perturbs me.

What ever happened to saving money on the spot and not spending the full amount then hoping that maybe eight weeks later you'll get your rebate back? I think they've gotten out of hand these days.

Right now I have about $300 in rebates from pre-thanksgiving sale.
The thing I hate about having rebate sale is that I actually have to pay the tax on the original price, not the sale price.

sigh... I bought $400 worth of stuff. $340 of it is going back. tHe other $60 will only cost $30 AR. Totally a wasted black friday

if i buy anything with a rebate I don't figure the "rebate" into the price,
so if its $50 on sale at store K,with no rebate,
and $60 - a $20 rebate at store S I will go to the store with the better out the door price.

in 2002 I went to Staples and bought a hard drive witha $50 rebate,
it took me untill April 03 to get the rebate check, and I had to get nasty with the rebat place, and Stples.

Rebates sux.

Rebates make good business sense. The industry benchmark is only 10% of rebates offered are ultimately fulfilled, mostly due to people being too lazy to send them in. Is it a hastle? - oh yes but if you don't like it, pay retail or head to eBay.

BTW - having intimate knowledge of the subject, expect Circuit City rebates to be a little more expedient than they have been in the past. 😉

rebates = sucks

i prefer to pay slightly more for an item that does not have rebates, as opposed to the same item that is slightly cheaper, but involves rebates. i just prefer to have the cash in my own pocket.

The only rebates I'm willing to deal with are those from Dell. To hell with keeping track of and arguing with rebate centers trying to figure out where my $20, $50 or $100 rebates are. If a store wants me to buy something from them, by God they're going to have to offer a low price out the door.

Well I just got a back of 50 DVD+Rs for $3.99 after a $30 rebate. Not bad considering I spent $90 on a pack of 50 2 years ago.

If I'm not willing to pay the "out the door" price for the thing, I'm not going to buy it. I don't pay attention to rebates.

same here
ive never actually sent in a rebat either, i usially just throw them away

I wouldn't know, neither I nor my family have enough money to participate in this wonderful event. Sure can't wait til I get a career.

I've seen figures that say only about 30% of rebates are actually sent in. That means that any losses from an underpriced item AR are easily offset by the other 70% that overpay.

I refused to shop today because of that. Rebates suck. I dont shop at stores that require rebates most times. Unless its cheap already and it is almost free after the rebates. Companies are double dippin when it comes to rebates. They get what their product is worth a few months from now and make money on you for their stocks going up when you buy at full price that day. A big nasty no no in my book.

U guys do realize that there are only rebates because lots of people never send it in?
Otherwise if everybody sent it in, the company will not be giving out these discounts at all.

Sucker. I've never lost out on the rebate money. Sometimes I need to get nasty with them, but I always get what's coming to me -- always.

My time is worth more than most rebates are to me. 😉

Not me, I have ALL the time in the world. Just to piss them off, I'll bitch over a $5 rebate.

This is what I do with my time. 🙁
