Yeah, just before the recession hit, my employer was doing that, despite profits being sky high. They made the Inc. 5000 list with 263.2% growth.

Then they let me go because they found someone who would work cheaper, and I was pretty cheap. I even trained the guy, lol.

He quit about three or four months later.

But now, I have a better paying job, with less stress, and more respect. Totally different industry, though. :D

Unless they make some serious changes, I don't think my former employer will last - it makes no sense to fire your best employees to avoid paying out well deserved raises. Yeah, you save lots of cash short term, but service quality suffers in the long term.

Yes, this happens a lot. "overtime exempt" professional positions are silly. No position should be exempt from overtime IMO.

Agreed I turned down a promotion once cause it was exempt. Glad I did too cause they ran into a problem and needed people to work overtime so as an incentive they offered a 100 bucks for every 8 hours of overtime you worked. + time and half for everything over 40 hours. So I ended up working 12 hours a day 6 a week for a the next few months.

Anyone here in architecture? Worked 53 hours last week, got paid for 40. 13 extra man hours charged to the project, and no OT payout.

"Be thankful you have a job" - The line I hear about once a week right before I get asked to stay late and work Saturday.

Salary FTL.

I agree, salary sucks.
I hate my job, but it's hourly, and that really helps.
I can work overtime whenever I need to (almost never) but its no questions asked at least.

People leave the company, and instead of hiring someone to fill the spot they just close it and make everybody else pick up the work that the person did? With nobody else getting paid more, and unpaid overtime.
All the time.
