I don't shoot the V1, but one of my cousins shoots with either the nex or nikon j1/v1 and the pictures are pretty amazing.
pretty crazy how fast sensor and auto focus technology are improving; every few years there's that upgrade itch surfacing.

the v1 seems like a great travel camera, and would probably work well as a 2nd body.
with a pancake, it'd probably fill the role of an s95/100. kind of weird going with a 2.7 crop factor sensor rather than the m4/3 though, but I guess that helps with portability

I travel with a J1. It's a nice little camera. Almost dropped it in a fondue pot the 1st week.

With the current "instant rebates" the prices seem about right. You can get the V1 with the 10-30mm lens, plus the 30-110mm, plus the 10mm pancake lens all for around $900.

I am tempted but cannot really give a good reason why I want it. I have the S95 with me all the time (which I can't really do with the V1) and if I am planning to shoot I bring the D7K.

I have one and it's ok. Too big for a pocket camera so if I'm going to camera either in a bag or on a strap, I would just as well use my DSLR. I like to be able to chose my focus points quickly which you can't do with the V1.
