Any wrestlers here?

I am thinking of buying a pair of wrestling shoes for...here it comes...driving. I've looked at various driving shoes but they are expensive (probably because they are designed to be flame retardant for racing). Since I'm not racing and I'm just looking for a thin soled shoe to get better feel while driving I'm considering a wrestling shoe. I've read that you should go 1/2 size over your normal shoe size but I'm not sure how that would work for my application. Any recommendations?

Here are the numbers:

Wrestling shoes: $40-50

Racing shoes: $160-260

With a topic summary of, "How do you size wrestling shoes? This is for driving purposes BTW", I felt somewhat compelled to read this thread, much like morbid curiosity gets the better of commuters passing a highway accident. It made about as much sense as I imagined it would.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled chaotic episode.

Actually, I walk everywhere now (or on rare occasion, rent), and take advantage of public transportation. One of the advantages of living in a large, well-connected city. Sold my transportation (which had a standard transmission. btw) approximately three years ago.

Much more cost effective this way, considering the costs of fuel, insurance, parking, etc. Of course, not everyone has that luxury.

Therein lies the problem. I NEED a car. So, I figure I might as well enjoy it every now and then and most shoes don't give you a good feel while driving which is why I often kick off my shoes when driving. It would just be nice to have a pair of shoes that I could wear when I'm just going out for a cruise or wear on longer trips.

I wear one of my son's many outgrown pairs of wrestling shoes, and DAMN are they comfortable. Part of my work-at-home attire, which includes pajamas, sweats, etc.

But, don't driving shoes have special gripping parts on them so that you have better control? Wrestling shoes don't.

Race shoes have a soft thin rubber sole and are usually built up a bit in the toe area for heel/toe throttle brake manipulation and to prevent premature wear in those areas. I think wrestling shoes have a very similar construction just without the fire retardant properties or reinforcing in the toe area. I can deal with them wearing out early though since they are so much cheaper. In fact, they would probably wear out faster from me walking around in them than from driving.

how about you just go to a sporting goods store and try them on. 😛

Dick's sells them. Foot Locker sells them, I believe. Champs sells them. All brands are sized differently. Nikes will fit different than Adidas, etc.
