any world about the 6800NU?

i have an LCD with max res of 1280*1024 so i'm thinking the 6800NU will be a much better upgrade than the 6800U since i will save $200 and wont even use the 1600*1200 res that the 6800U allows games to run it. anyone know when we will see a review for the 6800NU?

Depends on how you want to run games.
If you want 1280x1024 at up to 4xAA/8xAF then get a 6800nu
If you want games at 1280x1024 with more than 4xAA (ie: 6x or 8xAA) then get a 9800XT.

Or wait and see what ATi comes out with.

Alienware is selling them separetely? I thought they were just including them in their systems.

You have to pay $400 dollars for an upgraded PSU just to get one tho, Alienware sucks when they do stuff like that.

Ya I know, Anandtech's review said they had no problems running the card on a 420W PSU, and Nvidia recommends a 480W PSU, yet alienware make you upgrade to a 650W PSU before you can pay over $500 for the card to be in your system...I don't think $700 just to have a 6800 Ultra a little early is going to be anywhere near worth it!

yes i know, i would never buy alienware. i just mentioned it because the point of my topic was not to ask "can i get a 6800U right now?". i wanted to know when we can expect a 6800NU review

Doesn't look like alienware is selling the card seperately. My guess is you can order now but you won't get the comp (with 6800) for a month.

I would say you'll start seeing 6800NU reviews around the time or a little after the ATi Radeon X800 Pro comes out, since in reality the 6800NU is it's main competition.

It could have something to do with the fact that the human eye can't see the difference between 50-60 FPS and 130-140+ FPS. Personally, I play all my games at 1024/768 and have no desire to go higher. That, of course, its a good thing since i'm already invested in a 9800.

If you wanna see ugly, try taking an LCD, using it for gaming, then running it at a non-native resolution. If the response time doesn't kill you, the fuzzyness will.

And yes, if a person such as the OP will only be running at one resolution, then there is no point in him wasting his money on a higher price card when the lower will do everything needed and more. Some people don't enjoy, or don't have the luxury of, wasting money needlessly.

I doubt there's a absolute FPS limit that the human eye can detect which very well can vary from person to person and there is a noticeable difference (to me anyways) between 50-60 FPS and 85-100 let alone 130-140+ FPS especially in shooter type games e.g. UT2K4.

I sent an email to Alienware... they will try to send the system from the time your order in 7 days (with the new card). They have a good relationship with Nvidia and always get their newest tech first. They will be sending cards made directly by Nvidia at this point in time.... until the resellers start shipping theirs in the coming days.

LCD's aren't bad at all for gaming. I have the Samsung 213T (awesome LCD) with a native resolution of 1600 x 1200 (just right for this Ultra card). If I want to drop it down in resolution I go to 800 x 600 and see no fuzz at all (just 2 pixel width on the screen)... I have run at 1280 x 1024 and there is a slight loss of cripness but it's not that bad at all...😉
