My 360 died a week ago and the warranty has been voided for awhile (flashed the drive, yeah i know, stupid of me). The x clamp mod fix worked for awhile, but there was still some weird red pixels due to the heat and stress. Anyways, I see that Dell has the Arcade version with madden 09 on sale and I figured I would just pick one up to replace my old xbox with. I was wondering if they had completely switched both chips to 65nm. Any info would be great. Thanks

How cool and quiet do the current revisions run? I'm about to pull the trigger for an arcade on amazon.

If I was buying now I would def hold off for Jasper. It will be out anytime.

Jasper should eliminate RROD defect for good. There is still a decent risk with Falcons but not near as much as older boards. Trust me wait a few more weeks if you can. You might even be able to score a bundle at the same price.

alright

Guess I'll just stick to watching TV for now. I've been without a hd-dvd, dvd, media extender and my gta4 fix for months now haha

Meh, Falcon almost completely fixed the RRoD problems anyways. I think some people are making unwarranted assumptions by believing that Jasper will totally fix them.

I have read figures such as:

Original 360: 30% Failure rate
Falcon 360: 10% Failure rate
Jasper 360: <2% Failrure rate

Even if those figures are not correct, the idea that a die shrink will increase reliability makes sense, and so does waiting a few weeks to get the Jasper version. That what I would do if I knew that was the plan.

Well, i fixed my xbox with the blanket trick. Except I used socks to cover the back vent and a pillow on top. So I'm just going to hold out for now until 65nm is confirmed.

This xbox has been working fine since I did the xclamp replacement fix so I think it shuold be fine now that I remelted all the loose solder joints.

That dell deal is really tempting though

They're not. No one can know what the failure rate of an _unreleased_ platform is.

And if the failure rates were more like:
Falcon: < .5%
Jasper: < .4%

Would you really think waiting was sensible?

:Q

Let me get this straight... you "fixed" your 360 with a blanket, socks, and pillow?

Either there's something I don't know or Jasper isn't going to fix your problems

It's more commonly known as the towel trick.

Essentially, the idea is that you heat up your 360 so much that the GPU is able to reseat itself and fix the contact with the defective BGA balls.

It sounds insane, but my wife does thermal testing of electronics for a living, and confirmed to me that it could work, for a while, at least.

I personally doubt the failure rates will be that similar.

Why? You have no evidence to go on whatsoever. For all you know, Jasper may be worse - although that is admittedly unlikely.

those figures are more believable, evidence or not. The Jasper could come out and have more of a failure rate then the original board but at least it won't be due to heat issues. It would be another defect altogether.

I got my Xbox 360 pro 60gb holiday bundle in from Dell today. It is manufactured on 08-30-08, from FDOU (lot 835). The tray looks different from my 07-30-08 Arcade model (with liteon), and the power brick has (2) vents in it. both power bricks are rated 14.2v but look different.

I doubt it is the elusive jasper, but I am keeping it to replace the arcade anyway

Looks like we may be getting closer to seeing the Jasper hit the shelves if it hasn't already. I may pick up an Xbox now that it has come down in price, but I am in on hurry and can wait to get the latest and greatest.

Theat blog noted the Jasper should have an HDMI output too, which would be nice to use rather than the component output. Seems if the HDMI is part of the Jasper model design, anyone with one should be able to see that on the box!?

HDMI has been on the 360 since Zephyr - which is to say, rather a long time.
