Any wireless routers that will do a 1/4 mile?

Looking for a wireless router and NIC combo that will do 1/4 mile. The router would be located in a Cement building near a window and the NIC would be ~1000ft up the road in a stick built house. Anyone have luck going this far?

none that will just work out of box...

what you need to do is look at wireless bridges that are designed to span open areas. If you don't have line of sight, then it's not going to happen.

Look for something that is POE (Tranzeo, smartbridges are th 2 we use...don't use smartbridges unless you get some for cheap) and put them in Rootenna enclosures on masts, so you have LOS.

You basically need line of sight and a high gain antenna, and then it will work.

You don't necessarily need bridges, but you do need directional antennas and line of sight.

Go with a Mikrotik RB532 router board with a 2.4 card. Also as others have said, if you are going directly to another building use a directional antenna on both the AP side and client side.

are you trying to link two houses together or use your network at a neighbor's house?
