Does anyone know any ways to control the bandwidth available to each user over a shared internet connection?

Is there such programs that would do this?

Help needed!

Welcome to the forums. My name is VBboy, and I am in charge here. :D (Don't let the moderators see this!)

What type of connection sharing is this? Over a cable modem router, or some type of dialup sharing? We need more details.

More like a narrow band shared internet connection.. 56K dialup ICS

This connection is shared among 3 different users accross LAN, but Im wondering whether theres a way to control their bandwidth (from ther ICS host/server?) so that they wont stuff up other user's
fast internet :)

I guess you could set up a local software proxy on each machine and configure it to limit the bandwidth... WinProxy.com has a trial version, and you can find many more on Download.com

No, sorry. I don't share my connection like that. Also, you should look at your server which shares the connection and try to confiture its software, if it has any, to limit the client's bandwidth.

Good luck, and good night.

There's always the option of setting up QoS, setting ICMP pings to the higher priority, HTML, SSH, Telnet, FTP (that's browsing, FTP transfer takes place at a different port) to second, gaming third and the rest last. Here's more info on QoS

hmm.. QoS looks complicated.. but does it do the job of limiting others connection locally, or from the server?
The ICS host's running XP Pro.

I bet if you start a web site asking for paypal donation so you can have broadband, you be able to run a t1 line within days. :D
