Any way to test a CPU without actually having rish of frying it?

I modded a motherboard (voltage mod for 8KHA+), but when I tried a Duron on it, it totally fried it. I have since removed the soldering, but not sure whether if it's completely removed, because some might still stock b/w the pins. I tried to use the Duron to test whether the voltage is now normal, but since it's dead, all it does is getting really really really hot and is melting the socket and the core is smoking!
So, is there any way to test it without inserting a healthy CPU?

Ya, but I don't want to buy another board if this undone modded board is actually a working one.
