Any way to tell what cell service subscribed to by number?

I got the numbers of a couple people and sure I could call them but i much more enjoy the fun of text messaging 😛 Is there any way to find out what service they are using so i can msg online? I guess i could jsut go down the line with the three major providers here in town but it would be neat to be able to figure service based on number 😀

Also are there any services to reverse lookup numbers from cell phones? I've tried the regular ones online to no avail. I got a couple programmed into my cell this weekend at the bar and having a hard time remebering names when all i have to go on is a T.

Yes, the first 3 numbers (prefix) in an area code are assigned to a particular carrier.
Unfortunately, smaller companies can sublease those numbers from the larger carrier
and make it difficult to determine at times.

Most carriers these days have text, but it only works if the subscriber has:
1) a phone that can interpret it
2) the phone's feature is activated

I turned off my phones TM because it's starting to be used for spamming by
some Mexican firm. It's always in Spanish with a Tijuana telephone number.
