Any way to stop POST screen from scaling to fit my native res?

I know this can be done because my old Sony notebook POST screens were nice and clear and they had black bars on all four sides.

I hope someone can understand what I'm talking about.

The POST screens when you boot up your computer. These screens are low res so they get scaled up to fit my 1280x1024 LCD. I don't want to scale them. I want them to be displayed in the proper res with black bars on all sides.

Anyone know the actual resolution and color quality of these screens and how I might do this?

Thanks,

On laptops, the option(if it exists) is usually squirreled away in the BIOS somewhere, your mileage will vary by manufacturer. On desktops, you face a different problem. You need to convince your monitor not to scale imput(as your video card will be, at that time, outputting the standard, high compatibility, low performance video mode(as, unlike in a laptop, the motherboard has no idea what card it will be talking to)). Check your monitor's manual and/or OSD controls, and see if you can find an option that disables scaling.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I guess that would have to be controlled by the monitor and unfortunately my monitor doesn't have that option.

I have been looking at that Dell 20" widescreen and noticed it does have an option in the monitor menu to turn auto scaling off. So if I go with that monitor I'll be set.

I wish all monitors came with this option because I can't stand scaling a lower res. Some people don't get bothered by it but it drives me nuts.
