any way to remove PSU from Antec Sonata II without removing mobo or HSF?

To make a long story short, I'm trying to replace the stock Antec SmartPower 2.0 PSU that came with the case. Unfortunately w/my large Zalman HSF, it seems impossible to remove the PSU without either removing the HSF or the motherboard. Is that correct or am I missing something?

I've been struggling to tilt and get enough clearance to no avail. There's a stupid riveted cross-brace in the way, HSF is in the way, no way to remove the other side panel or the top panel, and no way to slide it forward via the drive bays or backwards.

Pretty sure you're going to need to remove the HSF. Even then it'll be a pain in the butt.

Otherwise you can drill out the rivets on bottom/side/top panel. But I'd recommend removing your components before you do that anyway 😉

Personally, I'd remove the motherboard, saves you from having to clean the CPU/Heatsink and apply a fresh layer of thermal compound and do a CPU/Heatsink reinstallation.

Yep. That's what I'm going to do. Still a big pain though. 🙁
