Any way to recover from iphone?

Hello

Is there anyway to make the iphone appear as a proper drive so I can run recuva on it? I dislike the way apple have done this really so you can't.

There must be a way, but google is filled with dodgy looking probably malicious software.

Any help appreciated, thanks.
