Any way to make Winamp3 not suck so much?

So I installed Winamp3 after my latest format, since it seems like the thing to do (newer components, etc.). It's a resource hog. A default install, no skins, visualizations, etc. is using 2-4% of my Athlon 1.4, while claiming almost 14 megs of physical ram and 21 megs of virtual memory. Yuck! Is there a way to make this piece of bloat more lightweight? Other than installing Winamp2 obviously.

Oh, and forget about actually using a skin or vis... they really drag your system down. What a shame that they did this to such a nifty program

The IT guys at my work think that WinAmp 3 is a piece of junk and use WinAmp 2.

I don't think that WA3 can be tweaked much.....that's just the way it is

If I might ask, what's so bad about WA2? I swear by v2.81.....

I hated WinAmp 3 so badly, I couldn't wait to go back to WA2. Dreadful cockup by Nullsoft.

I used Winamp3 for about 2 minutes, then uninstalled it and reinstalled 2.81 For videos I use WMP9 or WinDVD Platinum, and there are no other features of WA3 that I might have used. WA3 sucks

You could always try QCD player, it's a great Winamp replacement

I used Winamp 2.81 with Pipeamp skin and Statbar. They integrate very nicely, Statbar to control Winamp when it's behind a load of IE windows, and Pipeamp to make it look pretty.

Nothing bad about it at all. I just think that WA3 has some potential, although this is based mostly on Nullsoft hype. Sounds like there isn't amy way to "fix" WA3, so I guess I'll try another program, WA2, QCD, or whatever. I really wish Sonique 2 would come out.. Sonique was pretty cool back in the day.

Ive got WA 2.73 here. I saw the sucky performance of WA 3 on my friends laptop, so I wont be upgrading any time soon. Ive got like 5 backups of 2.73 and 2.81 everywhere.

Ditto, btw 2.81 is still available from nullsoft, I think they are realizing the herrendousity (?) of v3.
