Any way to make my phone the same speed it was when I first got it?

I have a Blackberry Dtek50. Lately it's been so SLOW. Everything, from launching an app, to even texting. It's just so damn slow. It reminds me of using a windows vista computer. Every click or move you make you have to wait. Does Android do like Apple where they purposely slow down your phone so you get a new one? Is there a way to get around this? Anything I can do to speed it up so it's as usable as it was when I first got it?

I thought I'd just ask here. I did a search on that site and it seems to be a known issue. Someone mentioned something about clearing cache. Tried that and I'll see if it helps. Someone also mentioned doing a factory reset, but I'm on Linux so that's going to be much harder to do from a Linux machine if it's even possible. Guessing you need to install some kind of special software which is probably going to be Windows only.

I'll see if clearing the cache helps on it's own though. There was a couple gigs.
