Any way to adjust a DLP TV?

My dad has a several year old 56" DLP TV that has a great picture except for one thing. There is a yellow halo of color on the upper left hand corner. It is definitely harsher in the corner but under certain conditions you can see a very faint yellowing of the picture all the way across the top. I don't know much about these TVs and was wondering if there are any adjustments that can cure this problem or is the TV finally going out and is it time to replace the unit?

That sounds...odd. Might want to consult a pro on this one. To me it doesn't seem like something that is easily adjustable.

I have heard of this before, but I'm unsure of the cause of the issue. How old is the bulb? Perhaps replacing it would fix the problem.

The bulb has already been replaced once but I am not sure how long ago. It is still under extended warranty so I guess we will find out.

The light engine is most likely dying. Is it a hitachi dlp? They are notorious for breaking in this way.

It is a JVC set. I assume that if the light engine is dying that means the TV is not repairable, or at least not economically.

usually no. you'd have to find the part, and put it in. but this is usually best done in a repair shop as they can verify that this is the issue.

I'd bet it' be around $250-350. but it would depend on the area you live.

It is not the bulb. Is the whole optics that is showing the yellow tint. The yellow tint is caused by plastic aging from heat or a chemical residue that is left on the optics and heat aged the chemical.

JVC does not make TV using DLP. JVC uses a LCoS that is the same category that DLP are in. A lot of people are confuse of these types of TV. Both DLP and LCoS used in the same way, but are manufactured using different materials. DLP uses mirrors and LCoS uses crystals to reflect light which displays the image on your TV.

yes, please excuse us for referring to all projection sets as dlps, this isn't correct.

What model TV is it? you may be able to fix this yourself depending on how broken it is and how easily you can access the problem area.

I appreciate the help guys but the folks left yesterday for two weeks vacation so I won't be able to get the model number til then. My dad said he has an appointment with whoever Best Buy sends out on warranty calls when he gets back. I will update then. Thanks.
