Any video cards that can output 4K

In a month or two Toshiba will bring out their 4Kx2K television. I saw on wikipedia that HDMI can handle such a resolution. But I don't know if any video cards that can take full advantage of such a television. Am I wrong?

Yes, it will output 4K. Gaming at that resolution seems doubtful though.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure why I didn't see this yesterday when I checked Newegg but it's there as well. Not really a gamer but, if I get this television, I would want to take full advantage of it right away.

4K over HDMI is at 24Hz at best AFAIK, OK for movies, but not the best for gaming. You'd need DisplayPort 1.2 for 60 Hz. 7xxx series have DP 1.2, but I doubt that Toshiba TV will...

Which displays are 120hz at 4K resolution? That's over four times the data rate of 1080p @ 120hz, and even that needs dual link DVI.

There is absolutely no reason to jump in and be an early adopter for such a TV. One, there`s zero native content. Two, price. Three, price. Four, upscaling performance is not truely known yet. And don`t compare 480->1080 upscaling. Granted, that was 6x more resolution, and this is only a 4x increase, what are you using for the upscaling? Unless your receiver has it (which isn`t common) the TV may, and we don`t have any details as to what it will actually look like.

And as far as gaming, then yes, you`ll tax the hell outta that card playing at that res. And if the card itself will upscale the content...how well will it do it.

I`m anxious to see what 4K will do, but it`s far too early to buy into it.

Yeah, only the equivalent of 12 LVDS channels ^-^ Though a special eyefinity panel could do it with multiple inputs I suppose then composite them together in one panel instead of over multiple panels.

You don't need ridiculous resolutions like that. 1680x1050 is just fine for gaming with 4xRGSS. Anything higher is a waste of money and GPU power.

I believe this would be Toshiba's 2nd generation 4K set. The first was released 2 years ago (2010) in Japan only. I know there is no reason to get it but we've had still images beyond that for a while and now video. You can get 4K video camera (just saying). Also, like I said earlier, I have no intention of gaming.

My only concern is what iCyborg wrote earlier. That makes me want to read the specs first before jumping in.

Definitely going to have to disagree with you there. I find resolutions that low uncomfortable to look at, and even 1920x1080 is borderline.

As already said you'll likely only get 24fps with that sort of resolution so it would be bad for gaming or anything rendered without motion blur.

Agreed, if I had the money I'd buy a 2560 wide display and Sli/crossfire in an instant. Sooo much nicer than 1080p.

hmm actually it quite good gaming in higher resolution (using eyefinity and HD5970), so it quite possible to gaming in HD7970 and 4K display and it will playable.

It's been available in Japan since December, and Europe as well. They announced a couple of months ago that it would be available in the US but I'm not sure whether it was supposed to be available in Q1 or Q2.

I'm putting this at 2015-2016 at the earliest for any real chance at adoption as a high-end PC gaming possibility. Until then we're stuck with 27 and 30" 2560 displays at best.

Depends on size of screen. On a 27" I can guarantee you 1680x1050 will look like crap. I can easily tell the difference on a 19" too but hey if you enjoy playing on a tiny low pixel density laptop screen then you're probably right.
