Any vets here? My dog just got hit

SAWYER

Lifer
I have a Shih-Tzu and he just ran out in the road and got hit but appears fine but a little scared. He isn't bleeding or foaming at the mouth, or whining or seems to hurt when I press anywhere on his body. I think he got luck, any things I need to be watching for?

Why not take him to the vet?

are you daft? everyone knows that in a life or death emergency, the first thing you do is post on an internet forum and get 3rd party medical opinions from those not trained in medicial procedures.

Haven't you read the manual???

If your examination - seeing if there were any places that caused pain - turned up nothing, and the dog is behaving normally, save your money.

Take the dog to the Vet .. even though you may not see an injuries, he could be bleeding internally. A quick check and an xray or two will give you some peace of mind.

I agree. I work in a vet office (I'm not a vet, just work the desk) but I have seen many times where a person waits too long and internal bleeding was happening and there was no outward signs to determine it.

Shih-Tzu's are small dogs right? How did it get "hit" by a car (assuming car as you mentioned it running into the road) and have no discernible injuries, was the car even moving?

I'm going to go out on a limb here - either the vehicle was traveling very slowly, else it's high enough off the ground that it barely touched the dog. i.e. have you ever straddled a small animal so you wouldn't crush it to death, but heard a light bump? Shih-Tzus are small animals.

A friend of mine backed over his dog coming out of the garage a few years ago, it got up and ran off and started playing in the yard like nothing happened. Friend thought it was fine so never took it to the vet, it died the next week from an internal injury. Anytime someone or something gets hit by a car, it needs to be checked out.

Why in the hell would you come on and post about it here before taking a FAMILY MEMBER to get medical care after an accident?

Take the dog to the vet NOW!
