Well, me and two of my friends got the idea to buy a new video card at the same time (Me= GF2MX400 guy1= GF2MX200, GUY2=TNT2M64 hehehe)
We've spoted all 3 of us the excellent performance/price card, GF4 ti-4200

Yet, no store in canada have them, exept RARE ones that have it listed BACKORDER
Not only are they BACKORDER but they are so damn much MORE expensive then in US

asus GF4ti4200 128mb: 350,00$ CDN (230,00$ USD)
so looking around US stores using pricewatch.com, I saw a lot of place selling MSI GF4 ti-4200 for around 150$-170$ USD (230$-260$ CDN)
only problem is I saw noone selling anywhere else then USA :(

I know shipping and taxes would cost quite a good price, but if we all order 3 of those cards at the same time, we could save.. yea maybe a little BUT we would have our cards before a lot of people here in canada, and yet at a lower price

So any suggestions?

Something to consider:

1) You have to pay tax on all imports. At least GST, sometimes both GST and PST.
2) UPS Ground and FedEx Ground do not include brokerage costs. This amount will vary with the amount of the item and can be substantial at times.
3) USPS/Canada Post charges a flat $5 CAD rate for brokerage costs, but you can't track USPS/Canada Post packages so most of the time places don't ship USPS.
4) Returns are very problematic.

So before you buy, consider all the extra costs, and then make your decision. Sometimes it still pays to go mail order, but often times it does not.

Supply/Demand. Mfgrs are supplying U.S. retailers before Canadian at present it seems, creating higher prices locally.

If you can hold out for a month or two, supply will be up and prices down.

Order from out-of-province but in-Canada and save pst.

As pointed out, couriers cross-border ground shipment with hefty brokerage fees (try 15-20%!)

As well, cross-border RMAs can be a nightmare.

Patience is a virtue. Be virtuous for once! ;)

i've been wating for this card for quite a while. but i heard at www.ncix.comthat it should be available in a few weeks. they have the abit ti440 for $366 CDN so i hope the 4200 will be well other that otherwise it would be a very crappy deal... i really need an upgrade because my voodoo 3 is really showing its age. i might as well get a radeon 8500 but i realy want the ti 4200 for its good score in the ut2002 performance teswt.
