Well as far as I know, Comcast (you of course may have a differnt provider) just charges an extra $5 per month if you want to upgrade to an HD tuner. If you decide to go with satellite then you are looking at upwards of $600+ to purchase an HD tuner. I have to agree with everyone else and say the Mitsubishi. The Toshiba has an integrated tuner which wont do you much good if you are using the tuner sent to you by your television provider.

I wll recommend looking into the extended warranty. There are few things that I buy them on but a projection TV is definitely one of them. Find everything that you want to buy, figure out a price that you'd like to pay and tell them that you would like to keep it at that price or lower. They will sometimes work with you on price. You may also want to keep an eye out because they will sometimes run 10% off deals if you sign up for or use a Best Buy Card, in addition to whatever financing promotions are going on. My cousin got a similar TV setup for 10% off and 24 month no interest about 3 months ago

They're running 18 month no-interest financing right now on BB card. Oh, and definitely get the Mitsu. Toshiba is a great manufacturer and Samsung's right up there with them, but you simply can't beat Mitsu quality.

Thanks for all the advice AngryPirate and everyone else. I work at Best Buy, so those prices reflected our employee discount. And I will definately be getting the service plan.

And exactly what cables will i be needing. I have an onkyo 6.1 setup, and I will be getting that progressive scan dvd player. Should I spring for monster cable?

thanks again

since youve got discount you might as well. how much do you get off. was the financing something you were going to want to use? as im sure you know, you cant use discount and get the financing promotion at the same time.

Best Buy employees receive a discount equal to paying 5% above the store's cost on most items; some items there is no discount on (computers & peripherals).

I know. I was a Computer Sup for three years. Was interested to find out what the actual $ amount to see if it was worth the loss of any financing promotions that he might plan on using.

Actual cost on the Mitsu is $2599. Only financing I qualify for is the 6 months, and I will be availing that.

Actually, you can purchase a system (dish and receiver) for $399 installed, through DirecTV.

As for the original question... Have you looked into the DLP units? You'd obviously have to go a little smaller to remain around the same budget, but quality is way more important than quantity.
