Projection TV's only work good if you are sitting in front of it though, looks like crap from angles and the side.

I saw a similar 30" widescreen HDTV ready TV at circuit city for around 700 last week.

Not true, mine actually has a pretty good side angle. Plus you could always get a DLP but that adds a lot in cost.

How the hell do they call it HDTV, when HDTV specification requirment is 16:9 widescreen? Do they just cut off the side in HD broadcasts? Or do they do the black bars?

Well if you can hold out another year or so, HDTVs will be a lot cheaper.

IIRC, you can still get the PT-47WX53 from Costco for $999. Great TV for the money. Highly recommended, picture looks very good even from angles.Originally posted by: azazyel

Currently one can get a 30" HDTV LCD for $999. I imagine that in 2006, unless the FCC pushes the deadline back again, when all television is broadcast in HD, a 30" LCD will go for ~$600.
A 4:3 HDTV then will probably take an even bigger price dive..
Of course, this is only a guess, but I can wait.
