I wouldn't even say its possible. Depending on what you meant by "alone". I guarentee that there is other life out there, its even possible we will find life on Saturn's Ice Moon (forget which one it is). It just won't be sentient life. Now it is possible that there is no other sentient life in the universe, but even saying that is a huge stretch if you ask me. As for life as a whole, its not even possible that with all the space there isn't any other living organisms out there

I'm of the opinion that we are either "special" or we arn't. If there is other life in the universe, the universe has/is/will be populated with beings beyond ourselves.

I saw these pics a few months ago when I was surfing around, bored at work. When I saw how small the earth was compared to the Sun, I was blown away. I knew the sun was huge, but that really puts it in perspective. But then I click on another pic and see how big Antares is, and I was floored. Makes you feel pretty damn insignificant.

The last I heard in an astronomy class I took (10 or so years ago) was that Jupiter would be stripped of it's atmostphere, leaving it's core.

Hmm... i always thought Mars & Earth were closer in size. Guess not.

Here's a list of the brightest stars
Antares is the 15th brightest named stats but it's only 425ly away. Compare that with Deneb(18th) at 1630ly... they're nearly the same brightness, meaning Deneb is huge.

The Sun is an average sized star(maybe a bit smaller than average).
