Any truth to this rumor?

My friend who used to work for Sony told me that retailers were going to start pulling GTA3 from the shelves due to excessive violence and sexuality. I personally don't think it's true but I was wondering if anyone else has heard it.

btw...he heard this from a friend who still works there.

I'd heard that some retailers were going to be pulling it from the general sales area and putting it behind the counter. Supposedly, there's some story going around that they're actually going to enforce an age restriction on it for buyers. I think Wal-Mart was one of the places that was talking about doing that - since they're so "family oriented," they say.

Target still has it front and center in the display case.

Edit to fix tags.

Hmm, I don't know about the validity of that, but GTA3 seems like the most popular PS2 game out there at the moment. From a pure economic standpoint, pulling it would be foolish.

Last night at Wal-Mart I saw some 13 year old kid try to buy GTA3 and they wouldn't let him.
His mom was standing next to him and told the clerk it was OK but clerk still said no, she had to pay for it.

They would not sell it to a minor.
