I have a similar problem. I had a mole removed from my left ear as a baby and, as a result the earbuds that rely on that little flap of cartilage to stay in won't work for my left ear.

I got some of these JVC earbuds at my local walmart for $20 bucks (yeah I know I overpaid now). They're comfortable and they stay in because they actually wedge into the ear canal instead of relying on external bits of the ear to hold them in. Sound quality is much better than the ones that came with the iPod too.

Mine fit in perfectly and never fall out. I just never put on the padding.
