Anyway, after I got my Camry and after he got his Highlander, he's become a Toyota whore so that leaves us with the Tacoma and Tundra. It has to be double cab and it has to have a long bed on it. Short beds need not apply.

Tundra DC - 74.3"
Titan Crew - 67.1"
F-150 Crew - 66"

We were looking at researching both the Tacoma DC and Tundra DC online, but the Tundra ends up being CHEAPER THAN THE FRIGGIN' TACOMA after incentives!!!!!!!!!

So are there any Tundra owners in the house? Any comments about the vehicle?

I own a '05 Tacoma Access Cab TRD 6-spd, V6. I LOVE my truck. I had been wanting the Tundra for a long time (the V8 is just smooth), but when the Tacoma came out, I realized it was the truck for me. reasons:

1) the truck is nearly the size of the Tundra (when talking Access cabs) and I really don't need a full size truck.
2) I like the interior of the Tacoma a lot better than the Tundra...especially in TRD form.
3) I wanted a manual and I would have to get a V6 in the Tundra for that...the Tundra weighs too much for a V6 in my opinion.
4) I really like the composite bed (people have different opinions on this).

Anyway, if your dad is just looking for something to tow stuff around in and doesn't really care about the interior or whatnot...Go with the Tundra...it is a great truck. The DC cabs especially are really roomy and the the bed is going to be a couple inches longer and deeper than the Tacoma.

By the way, the Tacoma TRD has done an awesome job so far offroad. with just about 7K on the truck, I have no complaints.

Just a note on mileage with the '05 V6 6spd. I just filled up yesterday and got 18.6 MPG. That included mixed city and highway driving with a trip up to the Mtns this pas weekend (Ceasars Head in SC). Anyway, that isn't bad considering the 6spd is only rated at 16-20MPG for '05. The Automatic with my car runs at 18-22MPG...so I would even be getting better gas mileage if I had the Automatic.

While this is not the best gas mileage...it is certainly better than the V8 tundra. A couple of my friends have them and they are happy to get 15...of course you are getting a smooth V8 for that...so it may be worth it to you (plus the added towing and room).

While that all sounds nice about the Credit Union donig all of the work in terms of finding a deal...it would be worth your while to have your dad go test drive the two trucks...I guarantee it will make up his mind when he does.

Oh, he always test drives before he buys. He just goes and blows some smoke up a local dealer's ass and test drives a couple of their trucks and then says "I'll get back to you", then he orders from the CU :D

That's cool...just wanted to make sure he did so. I went and test drove both Trucks with my girlfriend and both of us very quickly agreed that the Tacoma was right for me (although the Tundra was smoother engine and suspension wise). Your dad on the other hand may find the Tundra more to his liking...it is a terrific truck!
