I need a backup solution to my linux box web server. I have never served a web page with Windows before and I was wondering what a good and reasonably cheap solution would be for Windows.

Security is my foremost concern and price is my second. Free is always best, but not if it opens my computer and my network to attack. Capice? I have used Apache on the linux side and I know there is a Win 32 version, but how secure is it?

Also, what kind of policies, restrictions, etc. should I impose on my system, users, etc.?

Thanx

If you have used Apache for linux, then it might be a good idea to try Apache for Windows. The concepts are very similiar.

Tiny Web Server - pretty much serves web pages and that's it. Less features = usually better security. Free, comes with source. Search google for it. Or, (assuming XP pro comes with IIS ??? and you have XP pro) you could just install IIS, download and install all the patches, order the MS security toolkit, download and run the lockdown tool, subscribe to the MS security email bulletin, download all the windowsupdate patches for XP, get ZoneAlarm personal firewall, and use a non-Outlook mail client. It'd be "free" and you'd probably have pretty high security then, assuming you set up FP server extensions correctly :).
