Hub says to every computer on lan heres data youre getting it even if you dont want it
Switch says o this ip wants this data here you go
Router says here have this ip and leave me alone until your lease expires. And it says to outside lan computers trying to connect "ahahahahhahha teh port isn't forwarded jo0 unleet haxorz"

Switch gives data to a specific interface/MAC address location (not IP).
DHCP Server says here have this ip and leave me alone until your lease is halfway expired. Routers traffics data between 2 different networks/subnets based on IP or another addressing scheme. Devices running NAT say to "outside" requests: No other computers here but me.

fixed. Some things were just flat out wrong.

friend of mine had a non-powered 2 port hub, it was awesome! was in the shape of a triangle, but each point was flat instead of... well... pointy. one was designated in, two designated out. It was insanely small, and had insane amounts of collisions too
