Any thoughts on going from glasses to contacts?

I've been thinking about switching from glasses to contacts lately and was curious how the switch was, along with maybe the biggest changes.

I think I might prefer them because I won't have glasses on my face all day, and I'm assuming I'll be able to see a larger area clearly compared to glasses.

They're an overall improvement because you don't have glasses on your face annoying you, your entire field of vision is generally clearer, easier to be more active, less chance of them breaking or losing. Only downside is my eyes eventually get dry/tired.

Sunglasses are easier to find, too. 😛

and then try lasik... i had my eyes done about 8 years ago (after they had quit getting worse) and it was life altering goodness... now i'm starting to get old folk eyes and need mild reading glasses, but it's been great...

Contacts suck big time if your eyes aren't of average size. My cornea diameter is a little larger than usual so it limits what contacts I can wear. I also have problems with aberrations because my pupal are too large so I have to wear an aspheric lens which limits my options even further. Every lens I've tried so far has been uncomfortable. Good luck.

I love contacts. You don't have to worry about your glasses fogging up going outside to inside, Can wear sunglesses without any script... Just much better all around.

Take your time putting them on the first few times. They will take some time to get used to, but they are worth it. Hands down.

I'm staring at papers and computer screens all day, so I stick with glasses for the most part. If I try to wear contacts to work, my eyes eventually get tired.

I do love contacts for any sort of physical activity though. You can't really beat them for that.

The ones I use actually kinda reshape my eye so everytime I clean it after like 2-3 weeks of usage, I can go the day with only a slight blurriness for faraway objects.

I guess Im the only one on the other side of the fence. I tried them, but I had to have a toric lens in one eye. This caused me no ends of discomfort. I couldnt keep my contacts in for more that 4-6 hours before it got so bad I couldnt take it anymore. Went back to glasses and havent looked back.

I've had gas permeable contacts for 18 years. Best thing I've ever done. I recommend going somewhere that will really take time with you to explain them and make sure you're comfortable with them rather than just a chain eyeglass store.

If you have astigmatism you might have difficulty with contacts. I tried and the only ones that would work with my astigmatism were hard contacts.

The other thing to think about is that glasses serve to shield your eyes from branches, flying debris, wayward motes, etc. When you first switch you have to be really careful not to walk into stuff that can put your eye out.

I have toric lenses in both eyes. 12, 16 hours..no problems. YMMV, I guess.

Contacts are too much maintenance and PITA. Maybe it's just my eyes, but they tend to get irritated too easily. I pretty much just went back to wearing glasses at least when I need them to see far away. Also not good if you're not a morning person and want to do as little as possible when you wake up.

Worth a shot since maybe your mileage may vary.

Even for swimming?

i have the day/night ones, very comfortable!

You'll suck at putting them in for a week or so, but then it becomes second nature.

Do you really just walk into crap that can poke your eye out???? I got glasses and then contacts just so I could see and not walk into that stuff.

I do both.

Contacts for at work, out, etc.

At home i stick with glasses, as my eyes get tired with contacts after a while.

for me, contacts were a major pain. it sucks having to have the solution and lens holder where-ever you go. if you go camping, they suck. driving at night i would frequently see "phantom" images of lights in front of me. they just didnt work out that great. so, i'm back to glasses and i dont really have a problem with them.
