Any thing to worry about in adding a 3rd stick of memory to my Win 7 server?

My server is running on consumer class hardware but supports ECC memory (AMD FX CPU and Asus motherboard). It's running 2x2GB memory and I have been getting some low memory warnings lately when FlexRAID runs its monthly Verify of the RAID array. The Asus motherboard has 4 slots for memory but CPU cooler makes the inside slot nearly inaccessible.

So, I was just wondering if there would be any real-world performance hit by just adding a single 4-8GB stick or if I really should just swap out the 2x2Gb for a 2x4GB or 2x8GB. ECC doesn't rely on anything dual-channel, right?

Although, this memory looks like it may fit under the cooler:

I know that modern Intel boards will run dual channel anyway. Not sure about AMD.

But there is no noticeable difference between dual and single channel anyway, unless you are a benchmark fanatic.

So, don't worry about dual channel.

That's what I suspected but I needed someone else to confirm it. It's a media server so memory benchmarks are next to meaningless for me.

Thanks.
