any temps for amd xp and MSI K7266 pro2 mobo

Hi, just built a new pc with an amd xp 1700 (unoverclocked) and MSI Pro2 266a mobo. Heatsink is overclcokerz goliath with the small fan that the retail cpu came with (very quiet), also used arctic alumina. My temps are cpu/chassis Idle: 45C/40C and 50/44C after one hour of RTCW. Anyone else with a similar setup want to post some temps.
 
on winter my temp is about 33C idle and after loaded it is about 38C. before winter it is about 38C idle and 44C loaded.
btw, my CPU is running at 1.5 GHZ, from the original 1.33GHZ.
 
I've got an XP 1600+ @1540 Mhz, Alpha PAL8045 with 50cfm Sunon and K7T266 Pro2-RU. Temps are 34C idle, 38-39C after 3 hours of DivX to MPEG-1 encoding.
 
Athlon XP 1800+ OC to 145mhz FSB w/Alpha PAL8045 & Sunon fan on Asus A7V266-E w/CoolerMaster aluminum case: 48/28 degrees C.

This is with several days of uptime, an ambient temp of about 72 degrees F, and BearShare running in the background (cpu hovering around 5-9%)

I have the same setup (XP1700-MSI pro) I'm running a Dr.thermal fan,PC Alert show's the CPU @ 50c and case at 42c after playing U/T for over an hour
I have the FSB set to 137mhz and RAM @ 2.7v
AMD lists MAX TEMP of 90c

Yes, 95C DIE temp. However, with the MSI k7t-pro266 and other kt266a boards, you're measuing socket-thermistor, which reads well under die temp....

Thanks,95c is the DIE TEMP and the reading that I posted was from software and not the best temp reading,but my rig was at the same temp with a 100 FSB

If your temps at 1.1ghz and 1.46ghz were teh same, then it should give you some indication that your temperature guage isn't even close to accurate... Fact is, 99.99999% of the mb's out there don't measure die temp, and they can range from semi-close to die, to downright awful. THe K7266 is an aweful board when ti comes to socket-thermistor accuracy.

If it was accurate, under load, the 1.46ghz would be 33% hotter in degrees over ambient.

Mike,OK it looks like you know the numbers on prosser temps, so buttom line it for me amd all reading this ,how high can you O/C safley the XP1700 and MSI 266A
In my BIOS the temp is 40c @ 100fsb and 48c @ 137fsb ,I know that temp reading in windows have little accuracy
 
It all depends on your cooling setup, adn how comfortable you are at pushign the voltage.

P.S. The Windows temps arent' a problem when it is tied to an accurate measuring tool... unfortunatley, AMD mb's lack an accurate measuring tool

I just got my Xp1700 in today and havent unlocked it yet but its running at 11x148 right now
on a MSI 266a-RU board. 1.80v currently.

I've tried 11x150 boots into windows fine but locks up in 3dmark2001.
The chip is running super cool 35c and 39 under load. I add about 8c to this number to
make up the diffrence with the MB temp diode (so about 47c) I'm using the Pal8045
to cool and currently running my memory at the most aggressive settings.

I'll post some more results soon.

What is your ambient system temp?

Your "compensation" does not make the reading accurate, and it should be stated since some people will think that simply adding a number will make things with socket-thermsitors all good adn well....

Figure, with a DIE C/W of .34C/W tested for the PAL8045, your "cpu temp" should be around 25C (~78W for your processor at overclocked voltage/speed) over ambient system temp.

System temp is 26c right now.
CPU is @ 34c

The heatsink is stone cold.This is weird. with a Tbird I just took out it was floating around
42c (Heatsink was warm) now with the XP is 34c.
 
Just got done running CPUburn for about an hour, Max temp was 44c system was 34c.
The prior temps in my last post was after a 1/2 hour game of operation flashpoint online
hosting 8 players. Soon as I shut down cpuburn the temps dropped back down to 35c
in about 5 minutes. No crashes so far.

Forgot to mention, when I changed over from my old MSI K7T-Turbo-R (133a & tbird 1.2)
which has the thermistor (Springy plastic) style temp probe it gave me almost identicle reading as
my new MSI 266a-RU board with the surface mount Diode, diffrence of only 2c. About 2 months ago
I borrowed our digital inferred thermometer from work and pointed it at the core
under the heatsink while running underload and there was a diffrence of 4c from MBM and the reading.
Im not sure how accurate that was but the dot was directly on the side of the
core (not hitting the high temp epoxy) Somewhere around we have some 1/4"
square .005 mil thick thermistors, Ive been wanting to try to put one on top of the
Core and place the heatsink on and do a comparision.
 
Hmm... okay, so according to the socket-thermistor, you're running roughly 10C over ambient while under load (I personally consider CPU burn one of the better pure cpu loaders).

In that case, figure that your socket-thermistor is ~15C too low, but that can only be applied to your particular setup wtih case fans, cpu fan, heatsink etc. A different configuration would change this number.

I added some extra data while you were responding. I'd say anywhere from 8-15c would
probally be about right altough the heatsink is still colder then its ever been.
I just got done looking at your web page, great info there.
 
That's just cause hte T-bird is even hotter 😉...

But anyways, that sounds about right... the k7t-turbo was one of the "higher" reading socket-a boards, so a 4C difference between socket-thermistor and side thermistor(side reading) is about right... the Side reading, however, is still under full die temp, for reasons such as not being the full core measurement, and just an "edge" measurement... Comparisons of side-measurements versus core measurements show that the side-thermistor shows about 70% of the core temp rise over ambient at best.

Ambient system temp as in whatever system temp the MB gives you.. depending on your case cooling, this can be anywhere from 1-10C over room temp.

Wow... hte k7266 is really , really, really inaccurate, even for socket-a boards.

Figure that a 66W max wattage at 1533, default voltage x .36C/W tested for the SK6(witih delta 38cfm fan) = ~25C over ambient system temp.

So, where your die is probably around 50-55C, your socket-thermistor is reading 35C? yuck.
