1. How would you set up a home network?

2. How would you set up two computers, a router and a cable modem?

I was asked this in an interview question and I really want to be able to answer this thoroughly the next time it is indeed asked. Thank you in advance.

To be serious you would have to buy few books and start reading, or take a formal course.

I would also recommend www.practicallynetworked.com and www.tomsnetworking.com. Another useful resource is Steve Winograd's Networking FAQ. Steve like JackMDS is Microsoft MVP who frequently answers queries on the microsoft news group: microsoft.public.windowsxp.network, which also accessible on the web.
