I am currently going for a degree in Secondary Ed with an emphasis in History, and was wondering if there were any AT teachers and what subjects they teach.

Does that mean you have to get a degree in 5th grade, or what?

I assume that their's more emphasis on how to teach rather than what you teach?

My understanding is that you get a dgree in either Secondary Ed or Elementary ed. In Elementary Ed, I do not think you have to be certified in any particular emphasis where as with secondary ed you have an emphasis (18 or so credit hours of work) in history, business, english, german, spanish, etc.

Please do correct me if I am wrong though.

i'm working on a math degree while getting a credential that lets me teach K-8. so pretty much i'm opened to the option of teaching K-5 or math in middle school. i think i may be able to teach math in high school as well. some people go through a teaching program but they are forgetting that a lot of teachers get burned out by the time they hit their 30's-40's. it's nice to have a backup degree so i strongly advise anyone who wants to teach to get a degree in something else, then work on a teaching degree (an extra 2 semester). it may take longer, but it beats going back to school when you're old.
