Any Tactics fans in the house?

By Tactics I mean Final Fantasy Tactics.

If you haven't played the game (either on PSX or PSP), you should. It's not very challenging, but the story's good and the gameplay is fantastic. Unfortunately, you can break the game's difficulty to non-sensically low levels... anybody who's played this knows what I mean when I mention Brave modding and Blade Grasp or MP Switch with Move-MP Up or Math Skill or All Swordskill or... the list is a long one. But! This is where the 1.3 series of patches come in.

The Master Guide has a pretty good summary of the changes made - almost all for the better. Be warned that if you choose to play FFT 1.3xxx, you will die. A lot. That is, until you get smart. You can also learn from the many 1.3 videos on YouTube.

VERSION 1.3027 NOW OUT GO GRAB IT

Note: If you need to use an emulator I would suggest either ePSXe or pSX. ePSXe has auto FPS selection (e.g. always run at 200FPS) while pSX is faster on slower computers.

This game is great, I had a lot of fun with this one boring summer during college...

And yeah, with Blade Grasp you can be practically immune to physical attacks... quite cheap.

Awesome game. Of my my favorites. Would have loved to see a good sequel on a console and not a handheld.

Im a huge fan of Tactics rpg's. FF tactics was good but its not one of my favorites. Shining force 1 and 2 were the best. Then you have other great ones such as vandel hearts 1 and suikoden tactics as well. I wish this style of games would be picked back up and some new titles would come out but aparently nobody is making these anymore.

Wasn't there an even more ridiculous skill than Blade Grasp? It was called something, I forget what, but you didn't just stop the attack from happening, you interrupted it with your OWN attack first.

Also, once you got Orlandu he could be pretty much your entire party and you'd still win.

Hamedo (it's called something else in PSP ver)

But it activates against a lower number of attacks than Blade Grasp.

i never used orlandu. i'd just take his excalibur and ignore him. ramza + squire + two swords + excalibur/chaos blade = win

Would "grinding" be a good idea in this game? I am new to FFT but I started playing through vanilla and I wanted more of a challenge.

I wanted to fight a few battles to generate some gil in order to fully equip everyone before Sweegy Woods battle. It seems that as I grind, my characters level up, and as my characters level up so do the enemies and the enemies are now 10x stronger. Thing is, the gear I was grinding cash for doesn't seem to help out because the enemy is way stronger. Should I just try to play through without trying to grind?

Random battles have the enemies level up with you, but if you level up in the right classes, your improved abilities more than make up for their increased stats.

Wow, one year anniversary necro...

I've long since gave up on this game. I spent countless hours and retries before learning the zodiac system and all the other nuances of the game. I was able to make it to the final battle of chapter one, the one where you have to beat Algus.
