She is about to drop off her cell phone plan but I still have another 8 months left on mine. We were both in family plans with our respective families. In the long run it will probably be both easiest and cheapest to get a new cell phone contract together.

We both currently have Verizon, but the only deal I found was $99.99 for 2 phones, 700 minutes and unlimited text. Just didn't sound as good as I had hoped.

Also, if I remember correctly cell phone companies have to allow you to keep your number (or something like this) but talking to the guy at the Verizon store, he made it seem like it would be a huge headache and we should just get knew numbers. I personally would really like to keep my number.

I have shopped around the area but the only options are US Cellular and AT&T and both of them had basically the same exact deal as Verizon.

I am currently at school in a town pretty much in the middle of nowhere and wonder if it would be better to wait until Thanksgiving to shop around somewhere a little more competitive. I know that I am not roaming down here so it shouldn't really matter where my phone is from. Right?

Also .. is this really a good time to be shopping or would closer to xmas bring about more deals ?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I've always had to pay for my cell phone but I was always on the same contract as my family and just gave the money to them every year so now I am kind of out in the field with no much of a clue.

Sorry if this isn't the right place to put this... Wasn't sure so I rolled and hoped for the best.

Your not likely to get a better plan out of town or closer to Christmas, maybe a better deal on your phones but that plans are what they are.

As far as porting the numbers-If your current plan is under you parents name and your new plan is going to be under yours you are going to run into some problems. I am not saying it can't be done but it will be a huge PITA. I went through the same situation and ended up just getting a new number.

Another thing to consider is what company you and your GF's friends and family are with. Since pretty much everyone has free in network calling this should be a consideration.

Tapping into my extensive knowledge obtained by watching Judge Judy, I would suggest you not get a cell phone plan with your girlfriend.

If sprint is an option, They have a Everything Family Messaging plan that has 1500 minutes, unlimited messaging (text, pic, video), unlimited 7pm n/w, unlimited long distance and roaming for $99/month. If you want all the above w/ unlimited data on both lines its $129. It seems Sprint is making up for what they dont have in quality with lots of quantity.
