Any suggestions on what to do with an "AT" Tower?

Hello everyone. 🙂

Got an old-style, "AT" form-factor tower given to me this past weekend. The thing is full-sized and brand new. Kinda' cool looking, really. So was wondering if there was any way to mod the thing, or maybe get some kind of use out of it. Other than just junk the thing or blow it up or something...

Anywho, any suggestions or ideas would be great! 😀

Errr...

How about building yourself a linux router/firewall and mod it so that one of those mini 6" diagonal screens fit in the 5.25 bays? The screen could relay network stats 'n stuff.

Hmmm, I actually might do this...it would be so cool.....

Chris: I was thinking that exactly. The modding would really come down to a lot work out "back" and drilling holes onto the m/b tray. I do believe that the p/s specs are the same, size-wise. My only question is are the slot-openings the same spec as an "ATX" case, i.e. should I base my cutting on their position or not?

Doc: Cool idea! Actually, my first thought was turning the thing into some sort of giant server-type rig. I was leaning heavily toward a music-jukebox kinda' deal. Make myself up a stand-alone broadband capable, networked music station with built in DVD and CD-R/W burners. But the mini-lcd screen is a great idea. So, when just playing music or running in networked mode, it can give readouts on traffic or file info. Yeah...could be!

Modding into an ATX case is pretty simple! The mounting holes are in the right place for ATX, as are the expansion card slots 🙂

Only thing is to cut out the hole for the ATX i/o ports, which with a Dremel isn't too bad 🙂 PSU has exactly the same screw holes etc 🙂

Confused

I turned a couple of IBM PS2 Model 80 cases (big, heavy, tall sobs) into a T shaped end table for my brother's dorm room.
