I recently had a laptop stolen. I had groove installed so I could theoretically copy files to the laptop, but is there anything I can copy there that can help me track the IP? Though most of my important data is password protected, I'd also feel a lot better if the data is erased too. Thanks for any help.

after the fact is going ot be a rather hard thing. That sucks though man, good luck, let me know if you do find anyhting that helps you in your sitaution.

What is this groove you speak of?
Can you put something into the startup folder in the start menu?
There has to be a lot of things you can do, if you can do that
For example, Write a script that wipes the hard drive, if that is your biggest concern.
Write a script that pings your desktop so you can keep track of the IP
or install a dyndns type service

If you can get the IP get the police and your the ISP of that IP involved and they may be able to track to an address that way.

put ad up on craigslist looking to buy a laptop close to yours, see if idiot thief calls trying to sale you yours. Then kill.
