Any suggestions for songs for my wedding reception music list?

I just thought I'd post here to see if people had some ideas for songs I could include. I know what kind of music I like, but for weddings I'm thinking I should have more music you can dance to, etc.

So let me have it. What songs do you all like at a wedding reception?

I'm probably weird, but I don't think any modern music is wedding appropriate. I'd have to go back to the oldies.

How about tell the DJ/band the genre's you want and the genre's you want to avoid, and let them do what they are hired for?

No DJ. We're doing this ourselves. We have a sound system and more MP3s than we could ever need.

We had a friend do a song list for our wedding and we just hooked up the venue's sound system to my iPod with her playlist on it. She did a fantastic job and everyone, from the 10 year olds all the way to the 60 year olds, was dancing and the dance floor was full the entire time.

iPod + mp3s =

White Wedding- Billy Idol
Also, good ole Neil Diamond is great for wedding receptions, just steer clear of Solitary Man or Love On The Rocks

Everyone likes Cake. If they don't, well, there's the door 😛

 Hell yea!

Let's see...Collective Soul is one of my musical guilty pleasures.

The first time I heard "What I Can Give You" and "All That I Know", I immediately thought they would work well at a wedding. Both are from the most recent album, Afterwords.

Ya gotta have some cheesy classics that everybody knows and will dance to. Some suggestions:

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
Michael Jackson - Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean
Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight
Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)
Prince - 1999
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
Chaka Khan - I Feel For You
Escape Club - Wild Wild West
Rick James - Super Freak
The Gap Band - You Dropped a Bomb on Me
Young MC - Bust a Move
Neneh Cherry - Buffalo Stance
Blondie - Call Me
Village People - YMCA
Devo - Whip It
Bananarama - Venus
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up (hehe)
Salt N Pepa - Push It
Madonna - Vogue
MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This
Tag Team - Whoomp! There It Is
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch - Good Vibrations
C&C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat
Deee-Lite - Groove Is In The Heart
Will Smith - Gettin' Jiggy Wit It
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy
Ini Kamoze - Here Comes The Hotstepper
69 Boyz - Tootsee Roll
Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It
Kris Kross - Jump
Salt N Pepa & En Vogue - Whatta Man
Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca
Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe
RuPaul - Supermodel

ETA - FWIW, I don't really consider any of these rap.

a Wedding isn't a Wedding unless you play At Last by Etta James. That's the important song, the rest are just filler.
