Any suggestions for finding out about local doctors?

I just moved to a new area. Since I now have health insurance, I just want to go to a doctor for a regular check up. In my home town, I have had the same doctor my entire life. He was a good friend of my grandfather who was also a doctor.

How do people go about finding a good doctor. I don't know many people so getting advice is pretty tough to come by. Especially since I am limited to who I can go to under my health insurance plan.

Any review sites :)

Check the AMA website. You won't get any reviews, but you can at least see who's affiliated, what accreditations they have, and whether they continue with regular education.

Also ask your HR representatives to see if they have any other resources.

Try calling your local AMA and describe the kind of doctor you want and they will recommend MDs.

It is just weird for me because my entire life until college, I have gotten free health care because of my grandfather and his good friend who was a doctor :)

Thanks for the advice. I am just looking for a general family MD. I am only 24 so I don't have many health concerns.
