No need to get in an argument about the size of the bullet. The fake gun won't have fake bullets...

If you want to drop an intruder, shot placement is key. So, those of us who do protect ourselves with firearms should practice a lot on shot placement. I carry either a 9mm or .45 handgun and I'm completely comfortable and confident with both.

My forehead hurts now. I just slammed it on my desk in disbelief. Every sensible gun owner in this nation/world owns guns and does not want to have to use it on someone. Chances are that you will never have to, but if that life altering moment comes you better be damn well prepared for it, and a toy gun is not being prepared.
If you are that against guns, and feel that you need to protect yourself, buy a baseball bat and a taser or pepper spray.
You cannot be afraid of guns. Guns do not kill. People do. And people can be stupid and that's how an "unloaded" gun kills someone. It is not the act, intention or desire of the firearm. It is a concious decision of the person holding it, be it on purpose or negligent.

couldn't have said it better myself. op - take the time and classes to learn how to handle a real firearm - learn muzzle / trigger discipline and use it 100% of the time. hell, it is just me and my wife in our condo, and whenever i pick up one of my firearms, first thing i do is make sure it is in a safe direction, pull the slide/bolt back and make sure the chamber is clear even though nobody else has touched the weapon - it is how i was taught and i feel the way everybody should be taught - assume all guns are loaded. like others have stated you are nearly asking to get shot.

why don't you want a real gun?

The only good fake gun is NO fake gun. It could get you killed faster than having NO gun.

You NEVER pull a weapon on someone you're not prepared to kill...EVAR!

Buy an airsoft game and take out the orange safety tip and you're good to go. You can get a freaking M16...

you have airsoft M16 or M249 or whatever, bad guy has real 22lr pistol or larger - you = dead

Just get a real gun, and some good training.

A gun in your home is not going to go on a killing rampage by yourself. Get into a training course, and you will be fine.

Get a real gun but keep it unloaded or loaded with blankets for robbers. Load up the real stuff when zombies attack your city.

That can't end well.

EDIT: How will a model gun provide self defense? Throwing it?

I am not a gun fan at all. But dude is absolutely right. If you are in a situation where you pull a gun, you need to be able to use it. Because trust me if you pull one, the other guy damn sure is going to pull his and odds on bets is he is going to shoot, so you better be able to return fire. Someone like you needs to get a dog not a toy gun, lol. I don't mean to laugh at you, but a fake gun for protection is a sure fire way to be nominated for a Darwin award in the event of a tragedy.
