Any suggestions for a good Case Modding Dremel??

I am looking to purchase a good dremel for case modding -- let me know if you have any suggestions.

don't, buy a jigsaw.... works a lot better for cutting out window kits and blowholes. but then again, I suppose if you hacking into aluminum or really thin sheet metal... it wouldn' make much difference. but if your planning on modding an antec (like the 1030) you better get the jig saw because that is thick metal.

LoL I broke my dremel modding a 1030/40 case. So I can attest to thick metal on them some guns. But a Dremel is %100 better for small jobs. Sears usually has cheap ones I think they have a comperable Craftsman series as well.

Has anyone used one on the Lian Li Aluminum?

I was thinking of buying one of those attachments for my varialble dremal that holds it perfectly right angled to the work and allows you to cut it sideways with special bits. Makes it look like one of those drywall rotozip thingies. 🙂 This as apposed to using a cut off wheel.

If this doesn't work I already bought some fine tooth blades for my jigsaw.

exman is right, for grinding and drilling out rivits and what not the dremel works well... but I used 4 cutting wheels (the reinforced ones) when I was cutting a blowhole for a 120mm fan on the top of my sx1030... after that I used a jigsaw for the window and that worked 10 times better. They are good for small things... but that is about it.

I plan on eventually buying a jigsaw.

But right now I need a dremel. Any suggestions on dremel (or jigsaws for later) would be nice.

BTW, when i cut my 120mm Blowhole I used a friends cordless (super high-end) jigsaw. Like butter baby.

For case modding I think both a jigsaw and dremel are indispensible. I used a jigsaw ($40 @ Home Depot) for the window (do NOT use a dremel for windows unless you have a lot of time and patience). For dremels, I prefer the corded multipro instead of the cordless version. The corded version has much more power and you can get a kit with a nifty box and some bits for $60 @ Home Depot. Dremels are awesome for smallers jobs (i've used it to cut out grills, cut holes for switches, grinding edges, cut acrylic tubes for my homemade cathodes, snip of pesky hangnails, etc.). It's so much fun to use I keep looking for things to use it on 🙂

I have a craftsman. I think there's something stuck in the motor, because it doesn't run smoothly anymore and it gets quite hot.

There's always the option of using a drill press with a hole saw. That goes pretty fast, for those who are in a hurry.

Whatever you use, be sure to pick up a good pair of safety glasses if you don't already have some. Flakes of aluminum in your eyes is bad news.
