Any successful Sprint SERO Antroid upgrades?

My mogul is finally dying so I have to get a new phone. I have been out of contract for ~1.5 yrs, and am eligible for a new phone, and I really like the looks of the Evo line. I remember reading a post that I can keep my SERO plan and only have to pay $10 more for an Android because of the 4G data. Has anyone done this successfully? Was there any gotcha's?

My contract says:
SERO 500
500 Anytime Min
Nationwide Long Distance
America - Roaming Included
Unlimited Sprint Mobile to Mobile
Unlimited SMS Text
Unlimited Picture Mail
Unlimited Data Usage
Caller ID
Call waiting
3 way calling
Voicemail

At the time Sprint TV was supposed to be included in the data but I have a mogul, so I never used/had the chance to verify it was turned on. I would like to use it with the new phone.
 
Whoops...any ant roids out there...lol Title should have been "Any successful Sprint SERO Android upgrades", I don't see how to change the title in the original post...
 
You're close:

SERO = $30
SERO Premium = $30 + $10 (unlimited m2m any carrier, any 3G smartphone (android/WP7/etc...)
SERO Premium + 4G = $30 + $10 + $10 (same as above, but now w/ choice of any 4G phone)

This. That $50/mo plan is still $30 less (before discounts) than the ED450 plan - you should just be able to call SERO support and get your plan changed and order your new phone.
 
Thanks all. It's sad that we have to pay extra for the 4g phones even though there is no 4g for 120miles in any direction from me. I wish the EVO phones could be purchased and just limited to the 3g service. Oh well...

Yeah.. just the way it is I guess. Technically we should be "thankful" that Sprint's even carrying the SERO opportunities this far 😛 !! The "best" non-4g phones would be either the LG Optimus S or HTC Arrive.

it's not like HTC is giving Sprint a discount for people that don't live near wimax

Doesn't matter though, ALL new smartphone activations now require the $10/mo smartphone fee, 4G or not. I think they were having trouble convincing people that the $10/mo fee wasn't for 4G (leaving them open to accusations of charging people for 4G even if they're not in range), so they made it apply to all smartphones. Added bonus of getting to pretend like they're charging less than they really are, and they can now ding EVERYONE for an extra $10/mo, instead of only EVO, EVO Shift, and Epic users.
 
I went from a Mogul to an Evo 3D with no problems. I do pay $20 more a month though for the Sero Premium and the smartphone fee. Still it's worth it. The Evo 3D can do so much more than the Mogul can.

Edit: You'll most likely need to do it via phone or in a corporate store. Supposedly it can be done outside a corporate store but that's a big maybe. Even in the corporate stores they have trouble activating them. The person activating mine had to make a couple of calls, finally talking to employee plan care to get my phone set up.

All: I have been waiting for a dual core Android phone on Sprint with a nice screen, and the EVO 3D just dropped a week before my b-day. Should I be looking at the Windows phones like the HTC Arrive so I don't have to pay for the SERO Premium + 4G?
 
It's no longer a 4g fee, it's a smartphone fee. If you upgrade to a newer smartphone you're paying that fee. I don't know if there are any smartphones that don't require you to go to Sero Premium, to my knowledge all Android phones were blocked unless a SERO customer upgraded to Premium. You can try callling Employee Plan Care and asking.

For me, I'm not thrilled about spending $20 more a month, but I'm finding the EVO 3D is well worth it.

The best smartphone you can put on a SERO plan without upgrading to premium is the HTC Touch Pro 2. Windows Mobile 6.5, resistive touchscreen, good keyboard, lots of quirks, significant modding capability. Before SERO Premium was announced, a lot of SERO users were buying these.

IMO it's easily worth the extra $10/mo to get an Android phone instead.

That's the weird thing about SERO-P, that $10 fee is a 4G fee as it only applies to 4G phones for SERO-P users. All other users pay $10 for any smartphone, including 4G phones, whereas SERO-P users only pay $10 for 4G phones.
 
Ok, both my wife and I upgraded this afternoon. The price is still better than anywhere else. We went to the local mall and they told us where we could find a corporate store (the other local mall). At first the lady looked at me like I was nuts, and said oh no you can't have that plan anymore, then I restated I already have the plan from working for compUSA and Circuit City a few years back, and I just need the SERO Premium w/4G, and she said ok and did the upgrade in under 10min with no phone calls or hoopla.

We are happy with the transaction, but are still getting used to the phones. Simple things like mass selecting of emails for deletion don't seem to. I am in IT and have multiple accounts that I can usually just delete by the hundred if I'm out of the office or off shift. I can't seem to find that option. I forgot to ask them to migrate my old phone book to the new phone too. I there an easier way than to sync to outlook, then sync the android too?

It's not just an upgrade fee, if you have a Evo on the old price plan (pre-January '11) and for some reason need to get a replacement Evo, the, they tack on the $10 charge as well, even though you aren't technically "upgrading". It's any smartphone activation, whether its an identical phone, new or used.
 
Would the HTC Arrive be just $10/mo more over the current SERO plan?

That would be very, very, very tempting. I don't even use my SERO plan anymore but have kept it and paied the bill on it "just in case".

its kind of ridiculous (for reg. plan users), about the $10/premium fee (that includes 4g). since you're going to pay for the fee regardless of which 'premium' phone you get, why bother getting a 3g phone when you can get a 4g phone?
