Any soccer players here?

Any soccer players here? (Yes I'm american so I say "soccer&quot😉

Personally, I think soccer is one of the most physically demanding sports, coupling endurance running with strength and sprints. Some of the worst sport injuries I've seen have been from soccer. (I imagine injuries in shooting could be pretty bad though)

In the US I think people have a real skewed idea of what soccer is. It's way more physical than it seems on TV. I guess the other big complaints I hear is the low scoring and that you can't actually see the strategy (unless you are involved in soccer yourself) like you can in American football. I can't see any strategy in basketball but I guess the high scores make up for that right?

Any opinions?

soccer is the best sport, it requires tons of skill, endurance and balance. have you ever thought about that while playing soccer you are only on one foot most of the time. think about it, kinda cool if you ask me.

I played soccer when I was a kid. I love the sport! 🙂

The field is freakin' HUGE and you play for 90 minutes.

I don't see why Americans love Hockey and don't like Soccer. It's basically the same thing.

There is strategy in all sports. In basketball, it's all in the play calls/execution.

Soccer is the best sport bar none. I'd play hockey, but I can't skate. 🙂

I'd play soccer right now if there were an adult league in my area.

Also, indoor soccer is a lot of fun. It's almost not the same game, being able to use the boards, but it's still very cool.

I agree w/ BoberFett about the indoor soccer---I played soccer for 12 years, and indoor soccer for 4----indoor was so much more fun to me. Just gotta watch out for those astroturf burns---ouch!

I always loved checking people into the wall in indoor. Or schooling a defender with an off-the-wall pass to myself. This decides I gotta start up playing again. played since I was 7 all through highschool and then quit when I got to college. Now it's been 3 years since I've played on a team and I miss it too much. Hooray for intramurals. (No time for the acutal club team)

I played soccer as a kid.

I was the only girl on an all guys team :Q

The game is very demanding, but a whole lot of fun. 🙂

Soccer is a great sport. I've been playing for years, and I even played 2 years on the varsity team at my university. I agree that it is one of the most physically demanding sports, and I would even go so far as to say that it is the most demanding. Besides the running, there is the contact from being pushed to the ground or having your legs kicked. Another thing that gets overlooked is the mental aspect of the game. I mean, the fatigue from 90 minutes of running really affects concentration, and in that 91st minute, it's much harder to make a good save or score a goal. You have to be a really fit to play soccer at a high level. I never really appreciated it until I started playing the game myself.

Oh how true that is 😉🙂

Started playing regularly a few years ago, both outdoor and indoor. Now that I have moved to the Phoenix area, I need to find teams and places to play all over again. But I have to agree it is a very demanding sport! My knees hate me for it.

I used to play a lot before I tore my ACL playing on an Indoor club team in '98. I had 2 surgeries to repair it, and I haven't played competetive since, now I just play for fun. I tried playing right after the doctor told me it was okay again, but I hate not being able to run/pivot as fast and the pain that lasts for 2 days after a game so I quit.🙁

I feel your pain. I tore my MCL and PCL this past November playing on an indoor team with my friends at college. I'm just hoping I can get back to playing like I used to, and without much pain.

Basketball is way more demanding! With all the hundles and white boarding and fouls and free throws and tv timeout and regular time out and ... and ...

come to think of it, why in the heck are those guys sweating at all? From all the overhead lights?

IMO: Soccer in general rules, pick-up basketball rules, american football is kind-of interesting to watch (but on tv only).

You have obviously never seen high level rugby. It is played on a field at least as big as a soccer field. Imagine all of the wind sprints you do in a game of soccer. Now imagine doing a set of squats with 200Lbs between each sprint while someone punchs you in the stomach. That pretty much is what it feels like.

On top of that, the game at high levels is extremely fluid and fast moving. It is, IMHO, the best spectator sport around.

But I definitely agree that soccer is under-appreciated here in the States. I had fun during my playing days before moving over to rugby.

Soccer is awesome!! During my Highschool varsity days, I would normally weigh about 145 right before game time and 138 or so after... Not kidding.. I ate sooo much during soccer season - was in the best shape ever.

Yea, I love soccer too....Like seriously, I love the sport 🙂 I play in 7 leages per year (2 indoor, and 5 summer)....

I have practice almost everyday of the week....I started play soccer really late (like when I was 13), so competing with all of the genos/south americans is really hard, but I get around 🙂

Just started playing on a portugese team, and most of these guys play provincial 🙂

I agree too, soccer is waay underrated in North America.....I really cant wait until 2002 rolls around, and I cant wait to travel to europe 🙂 Hell, I even enjoy women's soccer (if ya know what I mean eheheh)

Like I say, "eat, sleep, soccer" 🙂
