Just bought a snowboarding set on a whim at a place they were having a liquidation sale with 50-75% off.

Of course they actually nowhere near that cheaper than internet prices. The following is what I got:

Board: Dynastar Definitive (161/25) for $100
Boots: K2 Raider Boa (size 10.5 US): $85
Bindings: K2 Formula : $100

Me: I consider myself a beginner intermediate who doesn't really fall anymore and can handle black diamonds on a smaller mountains. Been snowboarding about 7-9 times in course of 2 yrs.

Few questions-
1. What do you think of the set up? I guess good for the price? Lowest internet prices are still 20-25% expensive than what I paid, so I guess that's a good thing...

2. I think the board is bit narrow. The boots should barely edge off the board by 1.2-1" right? My boots actually edge off about by 2 inches both heel and toe. This concerns me the most. Is it really a big deal (as they directly impact your ability to turn, boots should be closest to the board as possible).

3. What's a good & active snowboard forum?

Please chime in.

i think the prices are fair but i'm a burton fanboi myself so i have no idea how much those are worth. i've been starting to hit the blues on big mountains like mt. creek or windham... where are you located?

as for snowboard forum... sierrasnowboard is a decent shop and has a forum.

this will likely be you biggest issue
if you go into a carve and your boots catch, its powder for lunch

the tighter you carve the more likely this will happen

You issue with thin boards are shared with people with big feet. They sell these things called "riser plates" they lift your bindings up about an inch above the board so you ahve more clearance when you carve. Consider getting those, they're about 40 bucks or so at major snowboard shops. The deal is not bad since the season is ending and they do liquidation sales like that. Around Southern california theres a yearly ski/snow show called "skidazzle" where you can get cheap last season's gear. If you live around here consider going to that for apparel or whatever else you're missing. It takes place in the end of November or beginning of December.

Something else you should look into is to get your new board "tuned" take it back to that shop if they have a service department. Basically it preps up your board so you can ride. Generally they'll remove any stickers thats on it, wax, and fixes up the metal edges. Its little known, but you don't want your edges to be sharp because that'll make it so you catch your edge easier and you can flip over. So these guys will round off the edges. You would wanna tune your edges about once a season before you ride the first time. Oh yah, remember to get your stomp pad if you havn't already. Best of luck!
