Any sleep number bed owners here?

I ask because I've had the bed for 7 nights now and I cannot find a comfortable setting. I'm in pain just laying on it no matter what number I choose. I've tried 30-100, different pillows, body pillow, knee pillow and I cannot find comfort!

I'm normally a side sleeper but this bed is killing my hips if I lay on my side no matter the setting. I plan on going back to the store tonight and ask for a refund which is a shame because the wife and I heard good things and I was looking forward to an adjustable bed.

So I'm asking if any sleep number owners here had the same experience.

Everybody I know loves theirs, but I'm a side sleeper too and have had issues finding a good mattress. I wonder if everybody who likes theirs sleeps on their back

You need to go back to the store and they have the pressure sensor.

They remove the air and the color graph will turn mostly green when the pressure points have been removed. But even if by that standard you still feel pain then speak with a doctor and do what I did and buy a memory foam bed.

I did that on the initial purchase. They told me that my number was 45, which was BS because I woke up in the middle of the night and had to take Ibuprofen for pain.

We've had one for a year now and love it. I sleep on my side as well and have it set to 65 for me. I think my wife has it at 100, she should just sleep on the floor.

I house-sat for my friend for a week who had a Sleep Number bed. Hated it. Lumpy & uncomfortable no matter what I set it to. Check out a memory foam like a Casper bed instead:

I don't understand the memory foam love. They retain so much heat I woke up in the night sweating like crazy when my hotel had one. Sure they make ones with "cooling gel" now, but I still don't think that's enough.

Don't own one but I've slept on them several times at various hotels while travelling...don't know why anyone would pay that much for a glorified air mattress, played with different settings for hours cause I was bored and actually slept on the couch one night because it was more comfortable:sneaky:

Even the cooling ones are still warmer than regular mattress. I have a knockoff memory foam mattress (Bob-o-pedic) and love it - it is warmer but I don't sweat. I think different foams have different heat reflective properties.

+1 for Casper. Had mine for almost 2 weeks now I cannot remember ever being that comfortable sleeping and I waking up pain free. I am a side sleeper myself and I love this thing. It does not get hot like the memory foam topper we had on our old mattress.

Our last innerspring mattress, a Sealy Posturpedic, we had for 10 years and I woke up in pain every morning.

Good Luck finding something comfortable! Makes a world of difference everyday!

I bought the pads that have the gel in it and it does work great and yes I am very sensitive to heat as well and I sleep great!

But when buying the pads I bought 2 so I get a max of 6 inches of padding.

If you use the padding on an old bed then it will not fix things.
Any spot with indentation where the spring does not go back to normal needs to be thrown away.

Buy the most firm mattress you can find then put the padding on top of that.

My hip pain is now 50 less and seems to be finally healing vs no healing with no gel pad.

Well I was going to come in here and tell you not to get one, but I'm too late. My parents have one and I was considering getting one and asked them about it. Now I'm not going to buy one. They have had issues with it wearing out and the pump won't keep the proper setting anymore.

+1 for memory foam. Ours doesn't get "hot" like everyone complains about.

We've had our knock off TempurPedic for 8 or so years now. Might be time to try a Casper.

I have yet to know anyone that didn't like their Sleep Number bed. Both my parents and brother own them.

They are out of my price range (they bought the higher end ones, like $3000+ on sale).

We were also a bit upset when we saw how basic this thing was for what we paid for it. Yes, it basically is just a $29 air mattress. We kept it right up until a few days before their 30 day money back guarantee no questions asked. They did ask quite a few question even offering to discount the bed. When they came to pickup the bed, they just ripped it apart to carry it out. They said that it is trash now, not worth salvaging. Very glad we got rid of this bed, but I can understand why people who spend so much money on this type of bed psychologically believe they got a good deal and it helps their back. Remember - It's just an air mattress that you can purchase at Kmart for $29.

You clearly have no real experience with Sleep Number beds.

I've got one and I like it, we ended up getting a King P4 series. Looking back I wish I had gotten one when I was single. For along time I thought I had a sleeping disorder, turns out the bed I had just was that uncomfortable.

Yes, but my old mattress was starting to sag in the middle so I was experiencing lower back pain. FML

I've been sleeping on one for over a year and I've never felt hot in it. I have zero air-conditioning and during the summer if I'm hot I sleep with no sheets.

My mother had a Sleep-Number bed. When she bought it, I tried it in the store and didn't like it all. Then, when she was in long-term rehab for a while and stayed at her apartment, I slept in it a few times and still never liked it. Even turned up to "100", it was never firm/supportive enough for me. Currently I have a 10+ year old hand-me-down TempurPedic that I came to like once I got used it, but that did take a week or so. The memory foam isn't "hard", but somehow seems fairly "firm", even though it compresses a fair amount to conform to body parts.

(By way mattress background, I'm not sure how my now middle-aged body would deal with it these days, but when I was younger, my all-time favorite "mattresses" were all-cotton futons. They had some give, but were obviously very "firm" indeed.)
