Any side effects of Creatine?!

It works great, just be a little careful. I can't blame these directly on creatine, but with creatine's help I was able to lift more than I should so I ended up getting tendonitis and sore shoulder/rotator cuff. Also when I retained too much water due to creatine I would feel more aches and pains and sometimes slight numb in the fingers. I think b/c I was retaining so much water that it pinched some of my nerves and blood supply just very slightly. I don't think it's a huge deal and I WOULD recommend cycling it just to give your body a natural break.
 
Yes please remember to drink a lot of water. I know of 3 people who have died probably as a result of them taking creatine and not upping their water intake.

I am sorry to hear that, but the only documented case I know of creatine killing someone was a college wrestler who was cutting weight and wearing plastic bags to practice, so it wasn't even really the creatine. Come on people, creatine is very safe, it isn't steroids.

shens. If they died it wasn't the creatine or they may have been taking multiples of the recommended dosages.
 
personally, i wouldnt wanna feel like i was "cheating" by taking supplements such as creatine. Any Joe Shmoe can get big off of the right supplements.

It's not cheating any more than having a protien drink after a hard workout is cheating. I bet you don't weight train seriously.

Isn't weight training itself cheating? If you want to be your natural size, then don't train and just be the size that your body decides from doing your everyday activities.

umm, like i said, i just would feel wierd getting bigger off of the use of supplements. Thats just me.

Like, I think my mom could put up 225lbs taking supplements.

While I agree that a good all natural diet is the best way, supplements are there to do exactly that... supplement your diet. Creatine is an acid that is already present in your food, you are just adding more. The same goes for protein consumption. Why eat a $10 steak for 50g of protein, when you can drink a $0.50 protein shake. The same goes for Creatine.

And not any Joe Schmoe can get big with the right supplements. Even the huge guys who are juicing daily put in more time in the gym than you ever will. Body building and/or weight lifting is a huge dedication, regardless of whether ot not you "cheat".


Anyways, my experience with Creatine is that it works great to get over a plateu, but once you go off of it, you are back down to the plateu. I have also taken it before soccer games and have noticed a quicker recovery time on the sidelines.

If you lift religiously and have never taken Creatine, the first and second weeks you use it, you will feel like a monster. It's pretty fun. I also experienced muscle cramps though. 1 gallon of water a day is hard enough, but 2 gallons is damn near impossible.

That was due to improper bench form, not creatine. That happens all the time to guys who never correct their form when the weight calls for it.

That sucks to hear that though, good luck with getting better.

Not just to improper form, but also his age, not strenthening his rotator cuff muscles and training too much too frequently, a very common mistake by younger people. I was one of them. I have been lifting and working out for 23 years and have learned a thing or two. Creatine works fine and is relatively safe. Another great supplement is Acetyl L-Carnitine. Esterated version of L-Carnitine. There is so much more as most venerated trainers know, including diet, training regimen and of course rest.

My days of bulking up and powerlifting are over. I am moderately strong but am in great shape. I am almost 39 years old and may to another Triathlon. I have been a bodybuidler also and have done some of the bad stuff...stay away...it is not worth it. I have also been a trainer and teacher for over 18 years.

1. Never compromise form.
2. Never compromise form.
3. Eat well and never compromise form.
4. Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated and never compromise your form doing the exercieses. So many times I see people in the gym doing sets that are just so whack. Fast hard jerky movements with partial range with too much weight. Remember this, if you are injured, you cannot work out. Take your time...use good form, diet and rest and you will see gains. I have learned serveral things over the years...Youngsters should really be supervised and should never be maxing out or lifting too hard. Their long bones/tendons and ligaments are not done growing...epiphyseal plates are not completely fused...etc.

Be wise..focus and leave your ego at the door. Help those that need it and encourage...people at a gym are trying to improve their sense of self and well being.

Wow you are so uneducated about weight lifting, and I seriously doubt you weight lift at all.

You sound worse than the guys that go on the t-nation forums and say "Hey, has anyone around here tried creatine? I am 5 foot 11 and 135lbs, and I am going to start weight lifting to become big, but I don't want to get to huge, so do you think creatine will make me too big right away?"

I've been taking creatine for 4 years now. The only cycling I do is when I take a break from the gym every 8-12 weeks. I don't even load when I start back up again after a week off.

I have gone off it a couple times and notice a small, but significant difference in stamina and strength in the gym.
 
Creatine has been used by athletes for 10-15 years now. There have been no incidents regarding side effects. But another point to mention is that this supplement has ONLY been used widely for 10-15 years, there has not been much time to determine if there are any long term side effects.

If you are gooing to use a creatine, don't use monohydrate, use a CEE. And drink plenty of water.

Creatine is very effective when cycled with a nitric oxide supplement. (I know some people on this forum are NO haters, and they may disagree.)
