For more than a months there have been absolutely no change in AMD 64 3000 Price.

The retail box still hovers in 220 $ Range, I dont know when a cut on prices will be made, certainly the 3200 or 3400's exceed a normal budget, may be INTEL will do price cuts on thier high end P4's because they are the ones on the move.

I wouldn't hold my breath on price cuts on the Athlon64 3000 until the socket 939 chips hit the streets in a few months.

I think it's going to be a while.

Usually one thing you notice about a new processor release is that it's predecessor is phased out quickly, and the new product comes out in many different variations.

This is not the case with the Athlon64 AT ALL (I believe this is due to the fact that AMD released the 64 a bit before its time to hopefully gain a step on Intel). I doubt we'll see good prices until we start seeing a true need for the added power the Athlon 64 brings(or any 64bit software for that matter), as the Barton and T-Bred are still plenty fast.

WhY? considering P4 3.0 is just as fast and costs $189 and I bet my momma it will overclock to more than 3.4ghz which would make it just as fast at gaming, but better at other important tasks.

A64 at 1.8 just does not fly.

A64 is not worth it unless it is at least 3200+.

There is basically no difference between a 3000+ and 3200+ in performance...and I own a 3200+.

Do you have a 2800+ A64? All the reviews I've seen show it right up there with a 3000+ which isn't far behind a 3200+... and they're all solid performers...

Not attractive to me. For one it has 9 multiplier meaning it has to be overclock very hard to get say 2.2-2.3 GHz which is very easy with 3200+. Second it is almost certain it is a lower quality chip as well. So if you want a serious discount get mobile barton.

i must agree. from all the reviews i read, it seems that the 3000+ is the sweet spot for the A64's

What is funny to me is when people discuss how A64 or any CPU for that matter is so important for gaming, when it's not as important as ppl think. I mean how many of you guys play at 640x480 or 1024x768 for that matter? If you do then sure go for A64 solution. In reality even $30 you save on a CPU which makes a difference between A64 2800+ and A64 3000+ is always better towards a videocard for better gaming.

yeah but when you can get 3.0 p4 and overclock it i will be a better deal in my opinion. Truly speaking, since most gamers with 9800Pros play at high resolutions, A64 has NO advantage over p4 solution at 1600x1200 (because games are bounded by videocard at that point) and it's pretty much slower at everything else so why buy it at equal price to a p4? That's my question.
