Any setup recomenations for a VPN to a small office.

We have had some security problems recently. One approach would be to route all traffic to/from the office through a VPN.

I'm worried about this as the cheaper VPN solutions are reported to drop after a few hours. There will be background traffic so the longest period without any packets over the VPN would be 60 seconds.

While it would be nice to be able to just through money at this the equipment in the small office will be of the Cisco SMB price range, including the newer 881/887-VAM. The equipment does not have to be Cisco I give this as a cost guide. The priority is security and then uptime. Realistically I would be looking for 99.9% uptime. Connections that just drop every 2 hours would not be acceptable.

It would be interesting to know how this would compare with an openvpn connection for reliability.

Will this be a point to point or dial-up? p2p are pretty solid. I've never had problems using many products from sonicwall up through juniper and cisco. Don't expect to keep a 24/7/365 connection with a dial-up client, but these are used by remote workers who can reconnect again if it drops, and it shouldn't drop often. I can't remember the last time I've had it drop on me, but I usually don't stay connected for more than 8 or 10 hours.

The connection will be over ADSL2+. We have had a VPN running ovet one of these beteeen a Co ADSL2+. If these drop its usualy very early in the moTrning due to work on the local exchange.

We have had a VPN running over one these between an RV082 V3 and a Cisco ASA.This was used for an RDP connection. This had had drops reported, and not at times the the ADSL2+ connection dropped.

This was the reason I asked anout setting up VPN connectiond that did not drop.
